U3A AI groups across Southern England

This website exists to start an AI/Science group in Chipping Norton.

U3A groups across Southern England have increasingly embraced both broad science networks and highly specific Artificial Intelligence (AI) Special Interest Groups (SIGs).

These groups cater to a range of experiences, from absolute beginners looking to use everyday AI chatbots to tech enthusiasts examining societal and ethical implications.
The following are prominent examples of local U3A Science and AI groups active in the southern regions of England:

  • Oxford U3A: AI Wonderland: A dedicated group at Oxford u3a that explores our relationship with AI.
  •  Designed specifically for complete beginners up to confident users, it skips technical jargon to focus on what AI means for daily life. [1]

  • Farnham U3A: Artificial Intelligence: Led by a regional contact for the national u3a "AI for Everyone" network,
  • Farnham u3a hosts a group with dual aims: building confidence in using tools like ChatGPT for daily tasks, and discussing the ongoing impact of AI on wider society. [1]

  • Sevenoaks U3A: Science & AI Network: Sevenoaks u3a manages a vibrant Science Open Group alongside a smaller Science Discussion Group.
  • They regularly pivot to computing topics, famously hosting regional "AI in Action" study seminars covering Large Language Models in healthcare and sustainable food production. [1, 2, 3]

  • Witney U3A: Science and Technology: Located in Oxfordshire, the Witney u3a Science and Technology group no longer operates (end of October 2026) due to no leader.

  • Sutton, Banstead, and Epsom & Ewell U3A Joint Science Group: A collaborative mega-group bridging several Surrey branches, hosted at Banstead Community Hall. It brings together hundreds of members for technical lectures covering everything from earth sciences to cutting-edge tech like the integration of AI in genetically modified crops. [1]
