Bringing lifelong learning and lively discussion to Charlbury.
U3A (University of the Third Age) is a UK-wide movement of vibrant local groups where retired and semi-retired people come together to learn, stay active, and explore new interests—not for qualifications, but purely for the joy of discovery, social connection, and shared experience.
Welcome to the new Charlbury U3A Branch
This site supports the local U3A movement in West Oxfordshire, working alongside the well-established Chipping Norton U3A Branch. Our ultimate goal is to establish a dedicated, independent U3A branch in Charlbury (or a vibrant local sub-branch under Chipping Norton's aegis).
Building Momentum in Charlbury
On February 27th, a local resident hosted an inaugural Charlbury U3A event featuring a presentation by an executive from Blenheim Palace. While the talk was an overwhelming success with fantastic community turn-out, the momentum stalled post-event. This platform exists to ensure this new branch stays connected, informed, and active.
The first meeting will be devoted to how we operate as a group. If time permits we can look at Will AI take over humanity? Is it the most worried about aspect of A I? We'll see!
It may overlap to the second meeting.
An important point about meetings is that members can request any topic for discussion.
Another important point is that members can ask for help. Perhaps there's a computer problem. Perhaps we can engage a chatbot there and then. Otherwise the relevant members can form a huddle after the meeting and fix a date.
